Agriculture Education

Our nation's economy revolves around agriculture.  Agriculture is everywhere you look.  Your home, your food, your car.............absolutely everywhere. You can be a food scientist, an animal trainer, bee keeper, landscaper, greenhouse manager, blueberry farmer, teacher or a veterinarian technician to name a few careers in agriculture. Come explore your opportunities with us.

Students completing a pathway (2 semesters) can add additional courses or enhance their educational experience with Work Based Learning or Apprenticeships in the local community during school hours for pay.

All students enrolled in an agriculture class at GICCA are members of the Golden Isles FFA.  Participation is required by Federal Law as well as the curriculum of ALL Agriculture Education courses in the State of Georgia.

Students must also complete a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) that requires them to document a minimum of 15 hours completing a project related to agriculture that teaches or reinforces skills that can be used in an agricultural career.

What is FFA?

The FFA operates on local, state and national levels. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school level. Agricultural education instructors serve as chapter advisors. Chapters are organized under state associations headed by an advisor and executive secretary, often employees of the state department of education. States conduct programs and host annual conventions.

Founded in 1928, the former "Future Farmers of America" brought together students, teachers and agribusiness to solidify support for agricultural education. The name of the organization was changed to the National FFA Organization in 1988 to reflect the growing diversity of agriculture. Today, more than 760,000 student members are engaged in a wide range of agricultural education activities.

The Georgia FFA Association was founded in 1929. Georgia FFA is the 3rd largest state association with more than 77,000 members. There are 384 chapters and more than 475 agricultural education teachers in Georgia.
