Work Ethic

Students are evaluated on their work ethic traits as performed in each individual course based on evaluation by the specific instructor.

The Work Ethic grade is worth 20% of the student's score for the course.

  • Attends class; arrives/leaves on time (no tardies); notifies instructor prior to or day of an absence; inquires about missing work.

  • Student displays loyalty, honesty, trustworthiness, dependability, reliability, initiative, self-discipline, and self-responsibility.

  • Respects the rights of others; respects confidentiality; is a team worker, is cooperative; is assertive; displays a customer service attitude; seeks opportunities for continuous learning; demonstrates mannerly behavior.

  • Displays appropriate dress (abides by school dress code, including backpacks, purses, holes in jeans, etc.), grooming, hygiene, and etiquette. Student present themselves professionally each day.

  • Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude; appears self-confident and has high expectations of self.

  • Follows safety practices; conserves materials; keeps work area neat and clean; follows directions and procedures; completes assignments punctually; participates.

  • Manifests skill in prioritizing and management of time and stress; demonstrates flexibility in handling change.

  • Displays excellent nonverbal (eye contact, body language) and oral (listening, telephone etiquette, grammar) skills.

  • Displays leadership skills; appropriately handles criticism, conflicts, and complaints; demonstrates problem-solving capability; maintains appropriate relationships with supervisors and peers; follows chain of command.

  • Deals with cultural/racial diversity in a professional manner; does not engage in harassment of any kind and stops others from engaging in harassment.
