The Golden Isles College and Career Academy (GICCA) Forestry and Natural Resources Pathway introduces students to the scientific management, conservation, and restoration of Georgia’s vital ecosystems.

Program Overview

This outdoor-focused curriculum combines environmental science with technical field skills, making it an ideal launchpad for students aiming to work for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), state parks, or forestry services. 

• Forest Management: Students master timber cruising, tree identification, forest ecology, and the sustainable harvesting practices used in the Southeast.
• Wildlife & Habitat Conservation: Instruction focuses on the biology, tracking, and habitat requirements of native wildlife, directly aligning with state conservation goals.
• DNR Career Preparation: Coursework builds the foundational knowledge required for key state-level roles, including game wardens, park rangers, and wildlife biologists. 
• Technical Field Equipment: Students gain practical experience using professional forestry tools, global positioning systems (GPS), and mapping software.
• Hands-On Opportunities: Enrolled students can participate in FFA natural resource competitions and leverage local Work-Based Learning placements with regional environmental agencies.
